A few questions - interview with death metal band from Chile - PULVERIZED.

Recenze/review - PULVERIZED - Monuments of Misanthropy (2018):

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Hey Jakub here is Pablo, guitar player from Pulverized. Thanks for reaching us out. We’re really glad to be considered in your Deadly Storm. Well, the band was founded in 2006 and we play Death Metal with lots of influences from the late 80`s/early 90’s Tampa Florida Death scene plus all the South American onslaught from the 80’s as well. We recently put out our first full length entitled Monuments of Misanthropy. These are six monuments that details furious hate in human existence. They reveal pure misanthrophy from unconscious and decadent beings.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

We recorded the album in DM6 Studio with Pablo Clares. He was in charge of recording, mixing and mastering it. We chose him and his studio because he has recorded a lot of bands, to our thoughts, with really good results in terms of sound. We were looking for a sound that interpreted us the way we see, feel and live Death Metal. It happened that he liked and matched a lot of our influences, so to speak. He helped substancially with the sound we were trying to capture.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

Well, we released 500 CD copies under Krucyator Productions from France, as well as the digital stuff. If everything goes fine, we will have two cassette editions early 2019 under Thanatology Productions from China and Total Pagan Madness Productions from Chile. We are very excited about these releases since they may have some extra brutality. At the moment, we are looking for offers to release the album on vinyl, so if anyone is interested don‘t hesitate to contact the band. The killer and eye-catching cover plus all the musical inferno really deserves it!!!

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

In general, our vocalist Claudio comes up with ideas. Then, we give him our feedback in some parts and we help with the vocal paterns as well. I write some ideas too and they are put into the songs but we also have a few ideas that, Sebastian Pinto (first Pulverized drummer and a good friend of mine) wrote the first year we started the band. Everyone has had a certain involvement on this process.

The lyrics deal with brutal and weird thoughts that sometimes our brains deal with. They approach different philosophycal aspects on how christianity or morals have developed a certain type of man, pitifully decadent, uncouncious about this condition. We denounce that in a certain way. In “Aniquilación Genética“ for instance, we speak about the abrogation of the lowest forms of life in intelectual and spiritual terms. When you (wisely) buy, listen to the complete album and confront the lyrics you’ll be aware of all these possible interpretations.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

It’s funny because the question reminded me the beginings when we did not have a proper logo and we needed one for a gig that we were also organizing. A friend of us (Leo from Deforme) who was creating the flyer, found this font (we don‘t know where) and we thougth it was similar to the aesthetic part of the band which is, as you may realize, to desintegrate and exterminate. I received help as well from Rich Montenegro ( a Colombian friend and designer) who put the blood and final touches.

The graphics of the album were created by the talented Adi Dechristianize [Dechristianize Art]. We had seen some of their work before in many brutal bands from Indonesia and some other countries, and we thought that he could do a killer job acccording to the ideas we had at that point. Then, Claudio contacted him via facebook and then we started to work together. He suggested us some cool ideas as well.

Our bandcamp page was designed by another good friend of us Marco from Ignominia/Hellfire. We share band with killer Death/Black Metal act IGNOMINIA, where me and my brother Andrés also have duties in. He has helped us a lot with many endevours within this apocalyptic journey .

We consider social networks important, as far as they help to spread the music with low cost and with enourmous possibilities of being heard from people out there, who otherwise could not have the opportunity to. Needless to say, the non sense and shitty things going on there. So, we use the social media for specific and tactical purposes. We miss the tape trading years and all the underground panorama of those days, but times have changed and if we do not adapt to a certain point to these new ways of communication, this very interview could not be possible.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

We chose to work with Krucyator Productions from France because they offer us what was needed. It’s a serious and underground label that has released a lot of killer Death metal bands. We feel great with them because they are professionals in what they do and that has given the album many opportunities to be listened and known among underground people, media, magazines and some iconic metal webzines. The idea is to be heard as much as possible and so far the response has been excellent.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

I must say that personally Morbid Angel has meant a lot to me. They have gone through a lot of ups and downs, but anyway I feel that they have developed a certain type of music rythmically challenging and technically dark that always blows me away. We obviously listen a lot the Tampa and US death/hardcore/grindcore metal scene since Possessed,Regurgitation, Death etc, but as you may know here in Chile, Brazil and Southamerica in general, there was a huge death/thrash metal scene back in the 80’s and that reflects and inspires the music we do as well.

All the members have their hearts on the classics of the Death Metal Genre but we also like to listen and get inspiration from the big ones such as Black Sabbath, Genesis, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Metallica.

When it comes to talk about the inspiration to play our music, well, some of us read a lot of stuff related to philosophy, science, martial arts, movies, art in general--but we agree on that life experiences gives you a lot of material to talk about. To play this type of music enable us to express and deal with our obscure and deeper feelings and we really like to put that into music.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

The response was always positive. We sent the record to a few of Chilean labels that we think we could work with but we couldn‘t agree on some requirements that we have as a band. We also sent it to a few foreign underground labels but they were collapsed with the amount of bands they were putting out. Then, Krucyator came up with the best deal. Good for us!

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

I really don’t know the number but I think near 50. Well, we don’t have a specific place as long as the minimun conditions we require are filled.

The last two we had this last December in Santiago and La Serena have been the most important and best ones. The level showed as a band was awesome and something to remember.

By the way, we performed a show in 2014 that I remember vividly. It was in Cúrico and we were promoting our demo Decadencia Espiritual. In that gig we were a supporting band for Torture Squad from Brazil but people got really insane with us. A lot of headbanging and beers made the show perfect.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

We are currently promoting our first album through interviews, reviews and some gigs. We are rehearsing what could possibly be our next chapter but the focus now is to show the album as much as we can. One of our biggest achievement was to release Monuments of Misanthropy. We had a lot of things going on before recording, some members went to live far from Santiago, some money issues, etc.

Obviously, we want to get more recognition because the music and the album deserve that and hopefully to record something in the near future. We are learning how to move in the underground realms so we will take every opportunity step by step.

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information?
